#13 Vet in North Dublin City, Dublin
North County Dublin S.P.C.A. Voluntary Veterinary Clinic is a voluntary clinic (established in 1924) and is affiliated with the ISPCA. Reviews suggest it’s used by owners for day-to-day issues (for example, skin/fungal problems such as ringworm) as well as more serious needs (one reviewer mentions help with funding an operation). Experiences are mixed: some describe the team as “reassuring, professional and generous,” while others report very long waits, poor communication about follow-up, and concerns about how cases were handled (including ringworm treatment and a dispute about a cat being taken in without the owner being contacted).

Can’t recommend this clinic, you wait forever while they take your pets in and give them out afterwards. No recommendations helped, it rather ended up in abusing our cats by putting them cream on their paws which were inflamed due the fungus infection they had. It’s said on their doors there are working volunteers, I doubt that these are proper veterinarians at all.

They are hoping my beloved cat Ami for no reason. He is a therapy cat as I have cancer and he wanders to the Coombe hospital almost every day. The manager rang this rescue society and even though I only live less than 5 mins. From the hospital they took him rather than phone me to collect him or bring him home to me. I love Ami I can’t live without him.

I brought my cat here 2 weeks ago with ringworm. The vet in the clinic said it wasn’t a normal case of ringworm and only gave me 5 days worth of medicine. I gave the medicine as instructed for the 5 days and waited for him to get better. He didn’t. I rang up today to tell them this and the woman on the phone was so blatantly rude, I’m beyond speechless. First she told me that ringworm medication was for 3 weeks not 5 days, I told her to speak to the vet as I only received 5 days worth. She then proceed to tell me that the vet would’ve told me to come back for a follow up appointment, which the vet did not. I was told that should’ve been the end of it by the vet. Also, I have never heard of a cat getting a follow up appointment for a case of ringworm?? He had ringworm as a baby, he was diagnosed correctly and treated accordingly with no follow up. If I went to the doctor and had a cold, would the doctor call me in for a follow up appointment after prescribing the correct medication? I don’t think so. The woman on the phone then proceeded to argue with me, clearly having zero communication with the veterinarian as what she said ‘should have’ happened, did not. She then rudely told me I was to bring him in for another appointment, which I told her plainly, I could not afford. She then said this was ‘rubbish’ ???! She stated my financial constraints are rubbish and that I should be bringing him in for another appointment. Excuse me?? Times are tough for everyone right now, who are you to tell me what I can and can’t afford? If I could afford a regular vet, I would have brought him to one closer to my house and not travel 40 minutes to your clinic in the first place. I do not recall asking for an opinion on my finances by a staff clerk? Where does this woman even get the audacity? I will not be spoken to like that, especially by a stranger. So bizarre. You have given me the wrong course of medication and misdiagnosed him, then I should be paying for another appointment for a fault of your own? The vet isn’t cheap, if it was, as I said, I would’ve chosen to go to a vet closer to home. Please do not come here. Please pay for proper treatment at a regular vet because my god, €55 down the drain, my cat is still sick and there’s an old woman shouting down the phone at me because I couldn’t fork out another €55 saying it’s ‘rubbish’. Times are hard for everyone at the moment and they do not care. The worst clinic I have ever been to. Avoid at all costs. **Update** They tried to flag this review as spam to get rid of it, the maturity level is astounding.
